Nurse Program Development Specialist

Renée Byfield, FNP, MS, RN, C-EFM has over 23 years of experience in medical intensive care and high-risk obstetrical nursing clinical practice, perinatal patient safety, academic and hospital nursing education and administration. She has held nurse management positions at Temple University Hospital as well as academic teaching positions at Temple and Drexel University Nursing schools in Philadelphia, PA. As a Clinical Assistant Professor at Drexel University, Ms. Byfield taught in the undergraduate and online master programs. In New York, Ms. Byfield has held obstetrical educator roles at St. Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical Center – New York Presbyterian. At Weill Cornell, she became Patient Safety Nurse for the obstetrical service where she coordinated quality improvement and perinatal patient safety initiatives with a group of health care professionals dedicated to improving maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. She implemented AHRQ’s TeamSTEPPS team training in Obstetrics and developed the interdisciplinary and interdepartmental perinatal simulation program. In November 2010, she traveled to Charite University Hospital in Berlin, Germany to co-teach physicians and nurse to conduct shoulder dystocia interdisciplinary simulation drills.
